A Chinese poet of the mid-Tang dynasty. Born in Yingchuan (Xuchang, Henan Province). His pen name was Zhongchu. In the 10th year of the Dali era (775), he passed the Jinshi examination and became a magistrate in Weinan (Shaanxi Province). He subsequently served as Grand Priest, Secretary, and Censor-in-Chief, and during the Taihe era he became Sima in Shaanzhou (Henan Province) and also served in the frontier. He was a disciple of Han Yu, and was also friends with Bai Juyi and Liu Yuxi. He excelled in music, and together with his friend Zhang Ji, he was known as the "League of Zhang King." Some of his works sing of the suffering of the people. He is particularly famous for his "Gong Ci," which describes the lives of palace ladies. He has written "San Jia Gong Ci," which includes the palace citations of Lady Hua Rui of Shu and Wang Gui of Song. Collection of poems "Wang Jian's Poetry Collection" (10 volumes).

中国，中唐の詩人。潁川 (河南省許昌) の人。字，仲初。大暦 10 (775) 年進士に及第，渭南 (陝西省) の尉となった。その後太府寺丞，秘書丞，侍御史を歴任して，太和年間に陝州 (河南省) の司馬となり，また辺境に従軍したこともある。韓愈の門下で，白居易，劉禹錫とも交際があった。楽府 (がふ) にすぐれ，友人の張籍とともに「張王楽府」と称され，なかには人民の苦しみをうたった作もある。宮女の生活をうたった『宮詞』が特に有名。蜀の花蕊 (かずい) 夫人，宋の王珪 (おうけい) の宮詞と合せた『三家宮詞』がある。詩集『王建詩集』 (10巻) 。
