Endoclyta excrescens (English spelling)

The bat moth Endoclyta excrescens (illustration) is a large species with a wingspan of 5-11 cm, and is found throughout the country along with the closely related spotted bat E. sinensis . Its larvae are pests that dig tunnels in various trees. Adults appear at the end of summer, and males fly around actively at dusk, searching for females to mate with.
