A book criticizing the three religions of Shinto, Confucianism, and Buddhism in the mid-Edo period. Written by Tominaga Nakamoto. 1 volume. Published in Osaka in 1746 (Enkyo 3). Based on the theory of a certain old man, it points out the lack of compatibility between those who study the three religions and the times, and proposes a "path of sincerity" that functions in reality. It also argues that ideology develops by surpassing previous theories, taking advantage of the name of its founder, and that as ethnic characteristics, India has a tendency to be mystical, China to be rhetorical, and Japan to be closed. Its theory of the history of the development of ideology provides methodological suggestions for researchers, and its comparison of various cultural types is also unique. [Mizuta Norihisa]
