The Sabines, led by King Titus Tatius, challenged Rome to a war of revenge, but in the midst of a fierce battle at the Forum, the Sabine women intervened and mediated between their husbands and their parents and siblings, resulting in a peace agreement. The two groups then united, and Romulus and Titus Tatius came to rule Rome together.
