A town in Futaba County, central Hamadori, eastern Fukushima Prefecture. The main settlement, Tomioka, is a former post station on the Rikuzenhama Kaido Highway and is located along the Joban Line. The Joban Expressway also passes through the town. Rice, livestock and vegetable cultivation are carried out. There are factories that manufacture low-voltage electrical components and knitwear. The town is also home to the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant (currently out of power generation due to a radioactive material leak that occurred in March 2011). 福島県東部,浜通り中央部の双葉(ふたば)郡の町。主集落富岡は陸前浜街道の旧宿駅で常磐線に沿う。他に常磐自動車道も通じる。米作,畜産,野菜栽培を行う。弱電部品製造,ニット製造の工場がある。東京電力福島第二原子力発電所がある(2011年3月に発生した放射性物質漏えい事故により,発電機能停止中)。東日本大震災で,町内において被害が発生。68.39km2。1万6001人(2010)。
