Three-dimensional theatrical space, a unique expression of theater, was created one after another by stage designers such as Gordon Craig of England, Adolphe Appia (1862-1928) of Switzerland, and Robert Edomond Jones (1887-1954) of the United States, as well as directors such as M. Reinhardt of Germany, J. Copeau of France, and VE Meyerhold of the Soviet Union. The desire to create a three-dimensional acting space led to the creation of three-dimensional stage sets and to consideration of the effects of material textures.
