Théâtre de L'Est Parisien

...TNP's main repertoire includes works by Brecht and other unusual contemporary writers, generally socially conscious, alongside reinterpreted classics from Japan and abroad. In addition, since the 1950s, there has been a general movement to decentralize theater in France, and the national theater Théâtre de L'Est Parisien (TEP), a newly established national theater in the Ménilmontant neighborhood on the eastern outskirts of Paris, known as a cultural "desert," has been newly established in the suburbs of Paris and major regional cities, as well as national and public theaters (and theater companies) jointly funded by the state and local governments. In many cases, these are theater centers attached to the so-called Maison de la culture, originally proposed by A. Malraux, and it is interesting to note that their activities are generally of a high level and avant-garde. Planchon's group was originally one of these representative centers.
