...After Napoleon III granted freedom to found theaters in 1969, new theaters sprang up one after another, and their status in the theater world became less absolute. They came to have a mission of preserving traditional theater and respecting the classics. In 1946, the second national theater, the Théâtre de l'Odéon (Luxembourg Theater), was merged by government decree. The Palais Royal (Richelieu Theater) performed classical plays and works by deceased foreign writers, while the Luxembourg Theater performed modern works. In 1959, these were relaunched as independent theaters (companies). After the 1960s, the old-fashioned management and production methods of the theaters seemed to have been left behind by the wave of internationalization and diversification of theater, but in 1975, the theater company regulations were improved, and there are signs of a gradual revival, such as the appointment of up-and-coming directors and young actors and a review of the repertoire. ...

…69年,ナポレオン3世が劇場創立の自由を認めてからは,新劇場が続出し,劇壇における地位も絶対的ではなくなり,いわば伝統演劇の保持と古典尊重を使命とするに至る。1946年,政令により国立第二劇場である〈オデオン座Théâtre de l’Odéon〉(リュクサンブール劇場)が合体,パレ・ロアイヤル(リシュリュー劇場)では古典劇や世を去った外国作家の作品,リュクサンブール劇場では現代物を上演したが,これも59年にはそれぞれ独立した劇場(団)として再出発した。 60年代以後は,旧態依然たる一座の運営・作品演出法が,演劇の国際化・多様化の波に取り残された観があったが,75年,劇団規定が改善され,気鋭の演出家・若手俳優の登用,レパートリーの見直しなど,徐々に復活の兆しを見せている。…
