[1] 〘Noun〙① A place where the road splits into two. A fork in the road. It remains as a place name in various places. ※Shinsen Rokujo (around 1244) 2 "At the fork in the road in the wilderness of the traveler, many vestiges left and parted ways (Fujiwara Ieyoshi)" ② Abbreviation of "Oiwake-bushi (Oiwake-bushi)". ※Shuncho (1903) (Tayama Katai) 4 "There was a public bath where all kinds of oiwake, hauta, tsutsuitsu, gidayu and other styles were performed to the best of their ability" [2][1] A fork in the road between the Nakasendo and Iwatsuki-kaido (Nikko Onari-do) in Mukogaoka, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. It was said to be on the outskirts of Edo. [2] A place name in Karuizawa-machi, Kitasaku-gun, Nagano Prefecture. It was a post station between Kutsukake and Odai on the Nakasendo, and a fork in the Hokkoku-kaido. It is said to be the birthplace of Oiwake-bushi. [3] The name of a place in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. It is located northeast of Yamashina Ward, Kyoto City, where the road to Fushimi branches off from the Kyo-kaido (old Tokaido). [4] The name of a place in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture. During the Edo period, there was a standpoint where the Sangu-do ( Ise-ji ) road branched off from the Tokaido.

[1] 〘名〙① 道の二つに分かれる所。分岐点。各地に地名として残る。※新撰六帖(1244頃)二「旅人の野中の道のおひわけに名残おほくも行き別れぬる〈藤原家良〉」② 「おいわけぶし(追分節)」の略。※春潮(1903)〈田山花袋〉四「追分やら、端歌やら、都々逸やら、義太夫やらの限りを尽した一箇の公浴場があって」[2][一] 東京都文京区向丘にあった中山道と岩槻街道(日光御成道)との分岐点。江戸のはずれといわれた。[二] 長野県北佐久郡軽井沢町の地名。中山道の沓掛と小田井の間の宿駅で、北国街道の分岐点にあたった。追分節の発祥地という。[三] 滋賀県大津市の地名。京都市山科区の北東方にあり、京街道(旧東海道)から伏見に向かう街道が分岐する。[四] 三重県四日市市の地名。江戸時代、東海道から参宮道(伊勢路)が分かれる立場(たてば)があった。
