A frog of the family Ranidae in the order Anura in the class Amphibians. It is named after the zoologist Ishikawa Chiyomatsu. It is a large species that lives in the mountainous areas of Amami Oshima and the main island of Okinawa, with a body length of about 10 centimeters. Its back is green with large dark purple spots. The center of the spots is raised, and gold lines run radially from the center. The ventral surface is white with irregular dark spots scattered throughout. It has suckers on the tips of its fingers. It can be found on rocks in mountain streams and in trees. It spawns from February to May, when it lays large yellow-white eggs about 4 millimeters in diameter in pools of underground water near the water source. The larvae develop in stagnant areas of the current. [Mitsuru Kuramoto] © Tadaaki Ohkata "> Major species of frogs (Japanese species) [Specimen illustrations...
