Hanjung-rok (English spelling)

Japanese: 閑中録 - かんちゅうろく（英語表記）Hanjung-rok

This is an autobiographical memoir written by Princess Hyegyeong Hong (1735-1815), who was the Crown Princess of King Yeongjo, the 21st ruler of the Joseon Dynasty, and the mother of the 22nd ruler, King Jeongjo. It is also called Hanjungnok or Hanjungmanrok. It is a masterpiece of documentary literature that realistically depicts the intrigues at the palace that she experienced, focusing on the death of her husband, Crown Prince Sado, who was killed by her father, King Yeongjo, as a victim of party strife. It is also a useful historical source for understanding the state of the palace at that time and the aristocracy that was divided by party strife.

朝鮮，李朝第 21代の王英祖の世子妃であり，第 22代の王正祖の母であった恵慶宮洪氏 (1735～1815) が書いた自伝的回顧録。『恨中録』『閑中漫録』ともいう。党争の犠牲となり，父王英祖の手で殺された夫である思悼世子の死を中心に，みずから体験した宮中の陰謀を写実的に表現した記録文学の白眉である。当時の宮中の模様や，党争により分裂した貴族層の理解に役立つ史料でもある。
