Furthermore, art lover Richard Payne Knight (1750-1824) discussed the picturesque in his works Landscape Painting (1794) and An Analytical Investigation into the Principles of Taste (1805). In particular, in the latter, Knight argued against Price, denying that the picturesque is an aesthetic value that arises from the subject's possessing certain objective conditions, and arguing that it is an emotion that arises from the viewer's associations that are inspired by the subject's purely visual qualities. …
