Jawhar

Japanese: Jawhar
Jawhar

…During that time, he successfully defended against the invasions of the Hamdanid and Fatimid dynasties. However, after the death of Kafur, Muhammad's grandson Ahmad Abū al-Fawāris Aḥmad ascended to the throne, but was defeated by the army of Jawhar, a Fatimid general who had invaded from North Africa, and was destroyed. [Kimitsu Morimoto].

From Cairo

...During the Tulunid dynasty (868-905) and the Ikhsid dynasty (935-969), the towns of al-'Askar and al-Qaṭā'i were founded respectively to the northeast of Fustat, and there was also an influx of Iranians, Turks, and Armenians from the east, as well as Berbers from the Maghreb in the west.
[Development of Cairo]
When the Fatimid dynasty, which had risen in Tunisia, occupied Egypt in 969, General Jawhar (?-991) built a neatly-planned rectangular city called Miṣr al-Qāhira at the foot of the Muqattam Hill, north of Qata'i, and moved the capital there two years later. It was a political and military center where government offices, nobles, and direct troops were located, and Fustat reached its economic peak during this period. The canal fell into disuse around this time, but a route from Kus on the upper Nile to the port of Aydab on the Red Sea developed, and Fustat's commercial sphere extended eastward to the west coast of India and westward from the Maghreb across the Sahara Desert to Western Sudan. Combined with the influx of large amounts of gold from Western Sudan, Coptic, Jewish, and Armenian merchants were active across the Arabian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

From [Muizz]

...Muizz gained the upper hand in this battle, and the Fatimid dynasty established a stable power in North Africa and the Mediterranean. He then began planning the conquest of Egypt, and in 969 he sent Jawhar (?-991) to conquer Egypt. In 973, Muizz entered the new capital, Cairo. He attempted to advance into Syria, but died before the project was completed.
