Shopping mall - Akinaiba

A trading post with the Ainu that was controlled by the Matsumae Domain. Also called a trading place, a control place, an Ezo trading place, or simply a place, it was either directly managed by the domain or a certain area was given to a high-ranking vassal as a stipend. This type of chigyo (stipend) was called a trading place chigyo, and was unique to the Matsumae Domain. The trading place chigyo arose from the special nature of the feudal lord's daimyo chigyo right, which was the exclusive right to trade with Ezo (the Ainu), and the vassals' chigyo rights also had the character of being a form of distribution of the lord's chigyo rights. A vassal (chigyo owner) who had such rights was called a control place owner or a place owner. Although there are many unclear points about the content of the rights, it is believed that there were considerable restrictions in terms of lordship, because the highly productive large areas were directly managed by the feudal lord, and even in the provided land, the rights to gold mining, falconry, and good salmon and trout fishing were all in the hands of the feudal lord, and the dispatch of trading ships to the trading post required the permission of the feudal lord. The trading post was initially run directly by the feudal lord, with the company sending its own ships or hired ships to the site to trade with the Ainu, but it quickly shifted to contract management by merchants, and the management style changed from simple Ainu trade at the trading post to fishing management, and accordingly the nature of the trading post changed from being a place of trading to being a place of fishing management.
