Kiegyezés

...After attempts at federalism and centralism, and the defeat in the Austro-Prussian War in 1866, the country decided to move towards the formation of a dual state with Hungary, and in 1867 the Austrian-Hungarian Ausgleich (meaning "compromise"; in Hungarian, Kiegyezés) was formed. The reasons for this were that the imperial authorities sought the cooperation of non-Slavic Hungarians in their fight against the Slavic peoples of the empire, and the interests of the Austrian capitalist class and the Hungarian landowning class and some of the large capitalists coincided.
