...The strong expressive power of the music, which is linked to words, can be seen not only in madrigals and chansons, but also in motets and other works. Composers of this period include Philippe de Monte (1521-1603) and Jacobus de Kerle (1531-32-91). The Flemish composers were active throughout almost all of Europe, and their polyphonic techniques had a great influence on the Roman school represented by Palestrina, the Venetian school represented by Gabrieli and others, which paved the way for the Baroque era, and on musicians in France, Germany, and Spain.
