Battle of Ishizu

Japanese: 石津の戦 - いしづのたたかい
Battle of Ishizu
During the Nanboku-cho period, the Ashikaga faction led by Takao Moronao counterattacked Kitabatake Akiie, a Southern Court ally who had invaded Settsu, and defeated him at Ishizu in Otori County, Izumi Province. In 1337 (Engen 2 | Kenmu 4), Akiie again headed west from Mutsu, and in January 1338 (Engen 3 | Ryakuo 1), after fighting the Shogunate forces at Aonogahara in Mino (Battle of Aonogahara), he passed through Ise and entered Yamato, where he fought at Hannyazaka in Nara with Takao Moronao, the Shogunate steward who had set out from Kyoto, and then in March, he cooperated with his younger brother Kitabatake Akinobu, who was based at Otokoyama in Yamashiro, and advanced into Kawachi and Settsu, posing a major threat to the Northern Court and the Shogunate.
