In Greek mythology, the daughter of Ethiopian king Cepheus and his wife Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia boasted that her daughter was more beautiful than the sea nymphs, the Nereids. The Nereids were outraged, so Poseidon sent a monster to ravage the kingdom.
