...His friend Kreuzwald wrote the legendary epic poem "Kalevipoek". JV Jannsen also published the first Estonian language newspaper "Pärnu Postman" (1864), and KR Jakobson advocated for the rights of the people through the radical newspaper "Sakkara" (1878-82). Jannsen was the driving force behind the first Estonian national song festival, which has been held roughly every five years since (the 1988 song festival held in the suburbs of Tallinn had a major impact on the country's independence from the Soviet Union in recent years).
