...Then, in the second half of the 19th century, tapestries were revived by chemist Chevreul, who served as dyeing supervisor at the Gobelins Manufactory (1824-89). (The color theory published during Chevreul's tenure contributed greatly to the formation of Impressionism, especially Divisionism.) In the 20th century, under the direction of G. Janneau (1935-45), efforts were made to create works that had their own value as textiles, rather than imitating paintings. Currently, tapestries are produced in Aubusson and Beauvais in France.
