…He studied photography under C.H. White (1871-1925), one of the founding members of the Photo-Secession. Later, he opened a studio in San Francisco and became friends with photographers from the Group f64, including E. Weston and A. Adams. In 1935, he became a staff photographer for the Farmers' Conservation Administration (FSA), and produced excellent documents of rural areas (especially migrant workers) devastated by the Great Depression. …
