A funeral conducted in the Shinto style. It is conducted according to the "simplified funeral ceremony" established by the Daikyoin in 1872, and has since become common. Ceremonies include the placing of the body in the coffin, the transfer of the spirit, the coffin-front ceremony, the grave-front ceremony, and the return-home ceremony. For the first 50 days after death, a memorial service is held at the deceased's grave every 10 days, after which the deceased is enshrined in the ancestral shrine. After this, a 100-day memorial service is held, followed by annual memorial services every 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 10 to 50 years (every 10 years), then a 100-year memorial service, and then a memorial service every 100 years thereafter.
