Jaggayyapeta

Japanese: Jaggayyapeta
Jaggayyapeta

...It is widely believed that artistic activity in this region began around the 1st century, and Buddhist art flourished rapidly from the early 2nd century when the Satavahana dynasty, which ruled the northwestern Deccan, advanced into this region. The ruins of these stupas are known to be Amaravati, Jaggayyapeta, Gori, Battiprole, and Ghantashala, all of which are scattered along the Krishna River. The stupas here have a unique form, with square protrusions on all four sides of a circular base, on which five āyaka pillars stand, and entrances on all four sides of the parapet surrounding the base, but no gates.
