International Cooperative Alliance

…The situation was similar in other socialist countries, but the Israeli kibbutz was another particularly distinctive cooperative organization. Along with the development of cooperatives, national and international federations of cooperatives have also developed, the most important of which is the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA), founded in 1895. The Alliance established cooperative principles based on the Rochdale Principles, adopted the seven-colored rainbow as the global unified symbol for cooperatives, and promoted international exchange through holding a conference every two years. It is currently a member of the non-governmental organizations section of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
