Ohara Imajo - Ohara no Imajo

Japanese: 大原今城 - おおはらのいまき
Ohara Imajo - Ohara no Imajo
Years of birth: Dates of birth and death unknown. A bureaucrat from a clan of the Emperor during the Nara period. A poet. His surname was Masato. He was originally called Imashiro no O. He was the son of Prince Hozumi and Otomo no Sakanoue no Jorou. In 739, he was given the clan name Ohara no Masato along with Prince Takayasu and others. In the same year, he was appointed as Hyobu no Shojo Shoshichi no Ge, and in 757, he was appointed as Jibu no Shoyu (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade). In 763, he was appointed as Sashoben (Left Junior Bench), but it seems that he was implicated in the Fujiwara no Nakamaro Rebellion and lost his official rank. In 771, he was restored to Jugo no Ge and became Hyobu no Shoyu (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade), and the following year, he was appointed as Suruga no Kami, which is the end of his official career as seen in historical documents. He left behind 18 poems in the Manyoshu, and is known to have been on friendly terms with Otomo no Yakamochi.
