induction

Japanese: induction
induction

…from the Greek word epigōgē and the Latin word inductio, it is a translation of a European word (such as English induction). It originally meant "to lead upwards," but is now used to mean the derivation of more general laws from more specific cases.

From [Developmental Biology]

...The explanation for the epigenetic aspects of development is based on the fact that in multicellular organisms, individual cells are not autonomous, and that interactions between cells are inevitable. In the first half of the 20th century, when classical epigenetic theory was at its height, induction was considered a basic concept for explaining development, and it also refers to interactions between cells during development. The concept of positional information in development, which was proposed in the 1970s, is also in the same category. At present, these two different positions are not the difference between two opposing ways of thinking, and should not be contrasted as theories. ...

From [Guidance]

...a term in animal development. During the individual development of vertebrates, a certain region of the embryo (germinal region) A exerts some kind of effect on another region (germinal region) B, determining the possibility of the formation of germinal region B and forming certain tissues and organs. In this case, germinal region A is the action system and germinal region B is the reaction system. In this way, a certain part of the embryo acts as an action system to stimulate other parts and induce the realization of the possibility of formation, which is called induction. For example, when the dorsal lip of the blastopore of a newt early cyst is transplanted into another early cyst, it invaginates and differentiates into the notochord and mesoderm, but at the same time, it acts as an organizer to induce the formation of a neural tube in the ectoderm of the host embryo that is in contact with it.
