...These wart-like protrusions are the ascus of the fungus, and when they mature, spores are pushed out from the tip, and the spores then parasitize new insects. Representative examples include C. sobolifera B.et Br. (illustration), C. militaris Link. (parasitizes lepidopteran pupae), C. nutans Pat. (parasitizes adult stink bugs) (illustration), C. sphecocephala Sacc., and C. tricentri Yasuda (illustration). Exceptions include C. ophioglossoides Fr. (illustration), which parasitizes the underground mushroom Elaphomyces , C. capitata Cesati et Not., and C. japonica Lloyd.
