Linear - Senkei (English spelling)

Japanese: 線形 - せんけい（英語表記）linear

When two normal waves are superimposed, the resulting height is the sum of the heights of the two waves. This is called the principle of superposition. In mathematics, something for which the principle of superposition holds is called linear, and something for which it does not hold is called nonlinear. Linear algebra deals with matrices and vectors, and is the theory that forms the basis of the linear world. Solitary wave solitons are a typical nonlinear phenomenon.

ふつうの波が2つ重なると、その高さは2つの波の高さの和になる。これを重ね合わせの原理という。数学では、このように重ね合わせの原理が成り立つものを線形、成り立たないものを非線形という。線形代数は行列とベクトルを対象とし、線形の世界の基礎となる理論である。孤立波ソリトンは典型的な非線形現象。
