Inanna

…the representative Babylonian goddess. In Sumer she was called Inanna (meaning "mistress of heaven"), and corresponds to the Canaanite Astarte, the Greek Aphrodite, and the Roman Venus. …Among them, the large alabaster cylindrical jar, the Warka (Uruk) jar (unearthed at Uruk), has three bands of low relief on the exterior. It depicts a festival scene thought to be related to the goddess Inanna. The number of cylinder seals increased rapidly during this period, but the designs became cruder than those of the Uruk period, and stylized geometric designs, a variation of plant motifs, became popular. …

[Venus myth of ancient West Asia]
In the late Neolithic period, the worship of a specific goddess was derived from this worship of the mother goddess, to which a series of myths were later added, and the goddess came to have a specific name. The oldest Venus myth known today is about the Sumerian goddess Inanna and the male god Dumuzi, and the Sumerian text called "Inanna's Descent to the Underworld" tells this myth in detail. It is a complex story, originally estimated to have been over 400 lines in total, and includes the theme that Inanna descends to the underworld and is unable to return to earth, so Dumuzi (here Inanna's husband) is brought to the underworld in her place, and Dumuzi's sister Geshtinanna descends to the underworld in search of him.
