Hu Zongnan (English spelling)

Japanese: 胡宗南 - こそうなん（英語表記）Hú Zōng nán

1902?-62
A modern Chinese soldier. Born in Xiaofeng County, Zhejiang Province. His courtesy name was Shoushan. He was a member of the first class of the Huangpu Military Academy. During the Second Civil Revolutionary War, he led the 1st Division of the Kuomintang Army and participated in the "encirclement and suppression" of the Red Army. During the War of Resistance against Japan, he was deputy commander of the 8th War Zone and was involved in the military blockade of the Shaan-Ganning border area, centered on Yan'an, and in 1943, during the third anti-Communist offensive, he invaded the border area. He continued to provoke enemies thereafter, invading Yan'an in 1947. After being defeated by the People's Liberation Army in 1949, he fled to Taiwan and became commander-in-chief of the Southeast Coastal Force. [Ishida Yoneko]

中国，現代の軍人。浙江省孝豊県の生れ。字は寿山。黄埔軍官学校第1期生。第2次国内革命戦争期，国民党軍第1師を率いて紅軍に対する〈包囲討伐〉に参加。抗日戦争期には第8戦区副司令として延安を中心とする陝甘寧辺区の軍事的封鎖に従事し，1943年の第3次反共攻勢の際，辺区に進攻。以後も挑発をくり返し，47年には延安を侵す。49年人民解放軍に敗れて台湾へ逃れ，東南沿海部隊総司令となる。【石田米子】
