Ohata [town] - Ohata
A former town in the northern part of the Shimokita Peninsula, Shimokita District, Aomori Prefecture, centered around Ohata. The town is primarily engaged in squid fishing, but also farms salmon and trout. Manufacturing that processes fishery and forestry products is also thriving. Located at Yagen Onsen and Mount Osorezan in the south, the town is part of the Shimokita Peninsula Quasi-National Park. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Kawauchi Town, Wakinosawa Village, and Mutsu City in Shimokita District. Area: 235.59 km2 . Population: 9,605 (2003).
