Japanese: イワシャジン - いわしゃじん

A perennial plant of the Campanulaceae family (APG classification: Campanulaceae). The stem is 20-40 cm long. The basal leaves are ovate, and the stem leaves are broadly linear. From September to October, the plant hangs down from shady rocks and blooms purple bell-shaped flowers. It is distributed in western Kanto and southeastern Chubu region. The Houoshajin variety is a small alpine type that is distributed on Mount Houo in the Akaishi Mountains (Southern Alps).

キキョウ科（APG分類：キキョウ科）の多年草。茎は長さ20～40センチメートル。根出葉は卵形、茎葉は広線形である。9～10月、日陰の岩場に垂れ下がって紫色の鐘形花を開く。関東西部、中部地方南東部に分布する。変種ホウオウシャジンは小形の高山型で赤石山脈（南アルプス）の鳳凰山(ほうおうざん)に分布する。
