An oil field located in the northeast corner of Texas, USA, about 20 km east of Dallas. With an ultimate recoverable volume of 5.4 billion barrels (some reports put it at 6 billion barrels), it is the 44th largest oil field in the world and the second largest in the USA after the Prudhoe Bay oil field in Alaska. It was discovered in 1930. The oil layer is Cretaceous sandstone, and the oil is collected in the sandstone that has been cut or excised into a wedge shape by a large dip unconformity, which is interpreted as a stratigraphic trap. The oil layer is 11.8 m thick in the north, 7.6 m thick in the middle, and 8 m thick in the south. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
