In 1997, he moved to the Théâtre Antoine, where he achieved success with Renard’s “The Carrot” and Shakespeare’s “King Lear.” From 1906 to 1914, he presided over the Théâtre de l’Odeon, where he worked on such classic masterpieces as “Le Cid,” “Julius Caesar,” and “Faust,” but this led to financial collapse, and after World War I he was mainly active as a theater critic. …
