A town in Nagaoka County in northern Kochi Prefecture. Located in the Shikoku Mountains along the Yoshino River, the town has extensive forests and fields that produce timber. Silkworm farming is popular, and the town also produces rice and tea, and highland vegetables. The Dosan Line, Kochi Expressway, and National Route 32 run through the town from north to south. The town is home to the national treasure Yakushido Hall and the giant cedar tree (a special natural monument) at Yasaka Shrine. Area: 315.06 km2 . Population: 4,719 (2010). 高知県北部,長岡郡の町。吉野川に沿う四国山地中にあり,林野が広く用材を産する。養蚕が盛んで,ほかに米,茶を産し,野菜の高冷地栽培も行われる。土讃線,高知自動車道と国道32号線が町域をほぼ南北に通じる。国宝の薬師堂,八坂神社に杉の大スギ(特別天然記念物)がある。315.06km2。4719人(2010)。
