A city in the northern part of Aichi Prefecture, on the Nobi Plain. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. The city center developed into a castle town after Oda Nobunaga built a castle on Komakiyama in 1563, and after the Kanbun era developed into a post town. Komakiyama is the site of the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute (historic site) and is now a park. It is a transportation hub where the Meitetsu Komaki Line, Meishin Expressway, and Tomei Expressway pass through and where the Chuo Expressway branches off, and Nagoya Airport (now the prefectural Nagoya Airport) is located at the southern end of the city. As transportation became more convenient, industries such as ceramics and transportation equipment moved in, and the manufacturing shipment value of the city was about 1.1 trillion yen (2003). It is becoming a satellite city of Nagoya City. The surrounding countryside is rich in rice, vegetables, pears, and peaches. 62.81 km2 . 147,132 people (2010).
