An island in the Irish Sea, halfway between Great Britain and Ireland. The highest point is 610m above sea level. A tourist destination blessed with beautiful scenery and a warm climate. Oats, wheat, barley, potatoes, and turnips are the main crops, and dairy farming and fishing are also practiced. It became a British colony in the early 14th century and is part of the UK, but it has its own parliament and is granted a large degree of autonomy. Laws passed by the British Parliament do not apply to the island unless specifically stated. The indigenous people are Manx (Manx people) of Celtic descent, and speak the Manx language (the number has been decreasing year by year since 355 in 1951). The site of the TT motorcycle race.
