Homunculus

...The first capuchin monkey, Dolichocebus , was discovered in Argentina. The Miocene to Pliocene periods were a time of adaptive radiation for higher primates. In the Miocene strata of Colombia, fossils of New World monkeys such as Homunculus have increased, and fossils of Cercopithecus such as Dolichopithecus and Mesopithecus are known from Europe to Africa. In Europe, Pliopithecus , thought to be the prototype of gibbons, was discovered, and a complete fossil of Oreopithecus was discovered in Italy. Fossils of modern apes and humans such as Proconsul , Dryopithecus , Ramapithecus , and Gigantopithecus have been discovered throughout Afro-Eurasia.
