The former name of a town (Handa-cho) in Mima-gun, northwest of Tokushima Prefecture. Currently, the area occupies the northwestern part of Tsurugi-cho. It is located on the south bank of the midstream of the Yoshino River. The former Handa-cho was incorporated as a town in 1926 (Taisho 15), and merged with Yachiyo-mura in 1956 (Showa 31). In 2005 (Heisei 17), it merged with Sadamitsu-cho and Ichi-mura to become Tsurugi-cho. The JR Tokushima Line and National Route 192 run along the Yoshino River. The town is known for the production of Handa lacquerware, which began during the Kyoho era (1716-1736), and at its peak during the Meiji era, it was shipped to Tokyo, Hokuriku, and other areas, but it later declined. In 1989, the Handa Lacquerware Revival Council was established, and Handa lacquerware began to be produced again. The production of hand-pulled somen noodles is thriving, as is the production of tea, oysters, and konjac. The area around Dodoro Falls in the west has been developed into a promenade and a waterfront park.

徳島県北西部、美馬郡(みまぐん)にあった旧町名（半田町(ちょう)）。現在は、つるぎ町の北西部を占める地域。吉野川中流南岸に位置する。旧半田町は、1926年（大正15）町制施行、1956年（昭和31）八千代(やちよ)村と合併。2005年（平成17）貞光(さだみつ)町、一宇(いちう)村と合併して、つるぎ町となった。JR徳島線、国道192号が吉野川沿いを走る。享保(きょうほう)年間（1716～1736）に始まる半田塗の製造で知られ、最盛期の明治時代には東京、北陸などへ出荷したが、その後、衰退した。1989年に「半田漆器復活協議会」が発足、半田塗がふたたび製作されるようになった。手延べそうめんの製造が盛んで、茶、カキ、コンニャクの生産も多い。西部にある土々呂の滝(どどろのたき)周辺は遊歩道や親水公園が整備されている。
