Sadamasa Kitaura

Japanese: 北浦定政 - きたうらさだまさ

1817-1871 A researcher of imperial tombs from the late Edo period.
Born on March 30, 1811. A native of Furuichi, Yamato (Nara Prefecture). A clerk at the Furuichi Magistrate's Office in the Ise-Tsu Domain. He investigated the imperial tombs of Yamato, and published "Utsuminawa" in 1858. In 1860, he was appointed as a samurai of the Tsu Domain, and became the official tomb official. He left behind many achievements that became the foundation of research into Heijo-kyo after the Meiji period, such as "A Diagram of the Area of the Heijo Palace Daidairi Site." He passed away on January 7, 1871, at the age of 55. He was commonly known as Gisuke, and his pen name was Reikitei.

文化14年3月30日生まれ。大和(奈良県)古市の人。伊勢(いせ)津藩領古市奉行所の手代。大和の天皇陵を調査し,嘉永(かえい)元年「打墨縄(うつすみなわ)」を刊行。文久3年津藩士に登用され,御陵用掛となる。「平城宮大内裏跡坪割の図」など,明治以後の平城京研究の基礎となる業績を多数のこした。明治4年1月7日死去。55歳。通称は義助。号は霊亀亭。
