...The name "Pop Art" is said to have originated from a photo collage by Hamilton in which a bodybuilder was holding a giant candy with the word "POP" written on it. It is also said that the term became established when Lawrence Alloway (1920- ), a critic of this movement, moved to New York in the 1960s and collectively called the works of a group of American artists "Pop Art." New York Pop Art can also be seen as having been born as an antithesis to Abstract Expressionism, which flourished in New York from the late 1940s to the 1950s. ...
