…He became a member of the National Assembly in 1889 and belonged to the faction of Gambetta. He served as foreign minister for a long period from 1898 to 1905, and established an era known as Delcasse diplomacy, which developed the diplomatic ideas of his predecessor, Albert-Auguste-Gabriel Hanotaux (1853-1944), who tried to break the international isolation of France imposed by Bismarck. His main achievements were strengthening the Franco-Russian alliance, resolving the Fashoda incident with Britain, forming the Anglo-French Entente (1904), and getting Italy to recognize France's exclusive right of freedom of movement in Morocco in exchange for Tripoli, while at the same time laying the groundwork for separating Italy from the Triple Alliance. …
