In Japan, where the four seasons are particularly clear, the relationship between the time of year, direction, and climate of the wind is important, and it has also been an object of worship, leading to the existence of many stories and proverbs related to wind. In Athens, Greece, there is an octagonal tower called the Tower of the Winds (also called the hōrologion, built around the 1st century BCE and containing a water clock), and on its eight walls are carved statues of the wind god, which represents different weather depending on the wind direction. …
