...Maciej Kamieński's (1734-1821) opera "Blessed Poverty" (1778) depicted rural life, but the first national opera in terms of subject matter and music was Jan Stefani's (1746-1829) "Cracow Burghers and Mountaineers" (1794).Instrumental music includes symphonies by A. Haczewski and Bazyli Bohdanowicz (1740-1817), a trio for two violins and a cello by Felix Janiewicz (1762-1848), and piano pieces such as the sentimental polonaise "Farewell to the Fatherland" by Michał Kleofas Ogiński, which reflects the tragic society of the time. Many patriotic songs were written during the independence movement, but the song of the Polish divisions fighting for independence abroad, "Dabrowski's Mazurka," was widely sung from 1797 onwards and became the national anthem in 1927.
