Heecheon (English spelling)

Japanese: 熙川 - きせん（英語表記）Hǔich‘ŏn

A city in the southern part of Jagang Province, Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is located in a basin formed by the Cheongcheon River in a valley between the Diyulryeong and Myohyang mountain ranges. There is an intermediate station on the Manpo Line, which connects the capital area centered on Pyongyang with Kangye and Manpo in the middle reaches of the Yalu River, and it developed as a distribution center for lumber and agricultural products. After the Korean War, construction was carried out as a base for industrial development in the mountainous areas, and it was transformed into an industrial area centered on machinery, building materials, and textile industries. Particular effort was focused on machine tools, and it is their main production center. [Taniura Takao]

朝鮮民主主義人民共和国，慈江道南部の都市。狄喩嶺山脈と妙香山脈に挟まれた谷あいに清川江が形成した盆地に位置する。平壌を中心とする首都圏と鴨緑江中流の江界，満浦等とを結ぶ満浦線の中間要駅があり，木材，農産物の集散地として発達した。朝鮮戦争後，山間地工業開発の拠点として建設が進められ，機械，建材，織物工業等を中心とする工業地帯に変貌した。とくに工作機械に力が注がれ，その主要生産地となっている。【谷浦孝雄】
