Slavic People's Conference - Slovanský sjezd (English spelling)
The first ever general congress of the Slavic peoples was held in Prague, the capital of Bohemia, from June 2 to 12, 1848. In German, it is called the Slawen Kongress. It was held to unite the Slavs in the Austrian Empire in response to the rapprochement between Hungary and Germany and the Frankfurt National Assembly, which had been calling for German unification since May of that year. Its proponents included the Czech Palacký and the Slovak Šafálik. There were about 360 participants, including Slavs living outside the Austrian Empire.
