…Amid the trend of reexamination of modern Western reason in the 1960s, such as structuralism, he critically clarified the basic forms of thought in the two major Western intellectual traditions, empiricism and idealism, and developed a philosophy to overcome them in his major work, Difference and Repetition (1968), based on his in-depth study of the history of philosophy. He went further, and in collaboration with F. Guattari (1930-92), he attempted to fundamentally reinterpret capitalist society by integrating the conceptual apparatus of psychoanalysis and Marxism in works such as Anti-Oedipus (1972) and Mille Plateaus (1980), which had a great influence on contemporary philosophy. After a long struggle with illness, he committed suicide. …
