A perennial plant of the Lamiaceae family (illustration) that grows in slightly damp places in mountains and fields. It has a long, slender, horizontally creeping underground stem. The stem is upright, quadrangular, 30-60 cm tall, with a few branches at the top. The leaves are opposite, oblong-lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, with short petioles and serrated edges. From July to September, a long, slender inflorescence is produced at the top of the stem, with pale pink, labiata flowers. The calyx is about 4 mm long, has five lobes at the tip, and the lower two lobes are long and slender, somewhat two-lipped. The upper lip of the corolla is barely developed, and the lower lip extends like a tongue, measuring just over 1 cm in length.
