Also called scoliosis. A condition in which the spine curves to the right or left. In many cases, the spine is also rotated. It was said to be rare in Japan, but in recent years it has become common among elementary and junior high school students, with an incidence rate of 0.3-0.5%. The degree of curvature is expressed by the angle made by the vertebrae at the top and bottom of the scoliosis. Mild cases are not noticeable, but when it exceeds 15 degrees it becomes apparent to the outside world, and the heights of the shoulders and shoulder blades become different. When bending forward, the ribs on the convex side of the spine bulge backwards. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
