This refers to the jointly signed article by the Tokugawa, Ukita, Maeda, Mori, and Kobayakawa clans, and the additional article dated August 3, 1595 (4th year of Bunroku). The additional signatures included Uesugi Kagekatsu, bringing the total to six, and as these people were later to become known as the Five Elders of the Toyotomi clan, this article can be said to be an order to control daimyo, nobles, and head priests, signed by the Five Elders of the Toyotomi clan. This article was issued the month after Toyotomi Hideyori's succession to the family headship was confirmed and the so-called Five Elders, Five Magistrates, and daimyo in Kyoto swore allegiance in July of the same year, and can be considered the basic law of the Toyotomi government under Hideyori.
